strength
March 17, 2010I don’t think about clips from movies very much, but the scene where Morpheus fights Neo in The Matrix has been coming to mind over the last few weeks.
Morpheus defeats Neo and tells him, “Good adaptation and improvisation, but your weakness is not your technique.”
They fight again and Morpheus knocks the wind out of Neo. Morpheus, who hasn’t broken a sweat, asks Neo, “How did I beat you?”
“You’re too fast”
“Do you believe that my being faster or stronger than you has anything to do with my muscles in this place?”
Then, with Neo panting on the ground, Morpheus asks him, “Do you think that is air you are breathing?”
Morpheus is trying to explain what strength is and is not.
Strength has nothing to do with muscles, technique, or even effort. Neo relies on these.
Strength in the matrix has everything to do with realizing that you the world around you is not the world you are really in.
Whoa. I like this thought.
